Túnel de Covoada sem limitações técnicas

Ribeira Brava, 15 Jul - Não existe impedimento técnico à construção do túnel que ligará Covoada aos restantes povoados da Ribeira Brava, em São Nicolau. De acordo com o edil ribeirabravense, o estudo ora concluído será apresentado em meados da próxima semana, na Praia, ao Ministério das Infra-estruturas, Transporte e Telecomunicação.
Américo Nascimento baseia as suas declarações nos resultados de um estudo efectuado por um engenheiro de minas de Portugal. De acordo com este autarca, o estudo ora concluído será apresentado em meados da próxima semana, na Praia, ao Ministério das Infra-estruturas, Transporte e Telecomunicação.
“A ideia de realizar este estudo surgiu em Outubro do ano transacto, no decurso de uma visita que o MITT efectuou a Covoada. Estivemos a analisar as alternativas de acesso e o ministro comprometeu-se a enviar um técnico para efectuar um estudo que apontasse a melhor forma de se aceder a essa comunidade”, frisa.
Foi escolhido o engenheiro de Minas Ramiro Lopes, um conhecido especialista com larga experiência que já construiu vários túneis na ilha da Madeira, Portugal. “Este engenheiro deslocou-se por três vezes a São Nicolau e elaborou o estudo que, tecnicamente, indica que não há impedimento à feitura do Túnel da Covoada”.
Motivo de satisfação para Américo Nascimento, para quem a construção do túnel é a resposta a uma reivindicação antiga da população. Até porque existem vários projectos de acesso a Covoada, inclusive via Ribeira Funda, mas nunca saíram do papel. “A ideia do túnel é recente e vai facilitar o acesso, para além do seu impacto ambiental ser muito menor do que uma estrada, por exemplo. Em termos de manutenção, o túnel é também menos exigente”.
O presidente da CM da Ribeira Brava está consciente que construir o túnel será dispendioso, mas lembra que o Vale possui micro-clima e grandes potencialidades em termos de cultivo. Actualmente a localidade é pouco povoada, em parte porque, devido à dificuldade de acesso, os moradores, muitos dos quais emigrantes, optaram por construir as suas residências em outras localidades.
“Covoada é uma parcela do território de São Nicolau com grandes potencialidades. O desenvolvimento da Vila da Ribeira Brava passa por Covoada. E criar acessibilidades constitui um acto de solidariedade para com os cerca de 150 habitantes da zona”.
Com este mesmo entendimento, Américo Nascimento acredita que, até final do ano, a localidade estará electrificada. O concurso já foi lançado e a ideia é presentear esta comunidade por ocasião do Natal com mais este bem essencial.
Enquanto isso, ontem, quarta-feira, 14, foi consignada as obras de reabilitação, remodelação e asfaltagem da estrada que ligará a Vila da Ribeira Brava ao aeroporto. Orçadas em 450 mil contos, as obras serão executadas pelo consórcio Monte Adriano/Empreitel Figueiredo, num ano.
