Ribeira Brava, 31 de Agosto - Foi a 30 de Agosto de 1731 que·José·da Costa Ribeiro, em cumprimento ao disposto na carta do monarca D. João V, institui a Câmara Municipal de São Nicolau e Ribeira Brava ascendeu à categoria de Vila e sede do·Município.
Em conferencia de imprensa, o autarca da Ribeira Brava, considera que cada municipe deve-se orgulhar desta data, do seu trajecto e do importante legado historico, patrimonial e cutural deste municipio e da ilha de São Nicolau. Segundo Américo Nascimento, Ribeira Brava berço da intectualidade Caboverdeana, é hoje, patrimonio nacional e essa distinção faz jus à sua beleza arquitectonica, à sua riquissima historia e à sua cultura. O edil da Ribeira Brava avança que todos temos a obrigação de a preservar e de a tornar cada vez mais bela, realça Americo Nascimento.
Com a divisão administrativa da ilha e Município de S. Nicolau, em dois Municípios – Ribeira Brava e Tarrafal – o Município da Ribeira Brava continua a ter como sua sede a Vila da Ribeira Brava. Por conseguinte, comemoramos dois importantes acontecimentos históricos nesta ocasião: os 280 anos da criação do Município de S. Nicolau e da ascensão da Ribeira Brava à categoria de Vila.
Cada munícipe deve-se orgulhar desta data, do seu trajecto e do importante legado histórico, patrimonial e cultural deste Município e da ilha de S. Nicolau. Ribeira Brava, berço da intelectualidade cabo-verdiana, é, hoje, património nacional e essa distinção faz jus à sua beleza arquitectónica, à sua riquíssima história e à sua cultura. Temos a obrigação de a preservar e de a tornar cada vez mais bela. Hoje também ostenta a categoria de cidade, com todo o mérito; mas não deixará de ser a nossa querida Vila ou, se quisermos, carinhosa e simplesmente Stancha.
