A Câmara Municipal da Ribeira Brava já conseguiu uma taxa de 85 por cento da cobertura de água a domicilio no município, graças aos avultados recursos investidos no sector da água e pela estratégia bem conseguida na elaboração do Plano Municipal da Água, que arrancou em 2010.
Sendo a água um bem essencial e básico para a preservação da saúde pública e hábitos saudáveis, e não só, a autarquia, reunida na sua 4ª sessão ordinária, avalia os resultados obtidos como um trabalho extraordinário.
Segundo dados apresentados pelo Serviço Autónomo de Água, desde o ano de 2010, altura em que foi implementado o Plano Municipal da Água, algumas zonas como Belém, Morro Brás, Carvoeiros, Carriçal, Estância Brás, Caleijão, Morro e Chã de Norte já têm 100 por cento de água a domicílio.
As restantes zonas do concelho, contam com uma taxa acima dos 70 por cento, exceptuando as localidades de Talho e Cachaço onde a percentagem está abaixo deste valor, e Boqueirão, Covoada e Pombas onde ainda não há água canalisada.
Neste novo mandato, o executivo camarário continua a sua aposta no sector da água e saneamento, cruciais para atingir os Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio (ODM) em Cabo Verde.
Com olhos postos num desenvolvimento sustentado, para os próximos dois anos foram traçadas algumas metas quais sejam, a conclusão da extensão da rede de água para Juncalinho (22Km) até o final deste ano, conclusão da adução de água de Preguiça a Caleijão (numa extensão de quase sete quilómetros).
Da mesma forma, vão continuar os investimentos para a adução de água no Vale da Ribeira Brava, com particular destaque para as zonas onde a ligação de água às casas é nula.
Igualmente, a equipa de Américo Nascimento vai dar início à produção de água dessalinizada, apesar de o cumprimento dessa meta estar dependente dos trabalhos da empresa a quem foi adjudicada a montagem da unidade dessalinizadora.
Por outro lado, é sua intenção elevar a cobertura de água a domicilio para 95 por cento, no período de um ano.
Na senda de ter um município verde e ecologicamente saudável, estão na forja projectos ousados que pretendem ter uma cobertura de água a domicilio à volta dos 100 por cento, até 2014, superando os ODM e introduzir, pelo menos, 25 por cento das energias renováveis no total da energia consumida na produção e distribuição de água.
