Os sectores da Saúde e do Ambiente revestem-se de grande importância para o desenvolvimento do município, em particular, e do país, em geral pelo que o executivo camarário pretende até o final do mandato ter 30 por cento de energias no município.
Pretendendo tomar decisões que visem cumprir os Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio (ODM), esta foi uma das deliberações da oitava sessão ordinária e que visa a preservação do ambiente.
Nesta ordem de ideias, foi estabelecido como meta, até o final do mandato, em 2016, envidar esforços no sentido de atingir a taxa de 30% de penetração de energia renovável no município, com particular impacto na produção e distribuição de água (sistema de bombagem e dessalinização) e consumo nos serviços dependentes da autarquia.
Já nesta esfera é de se destacar que a autarquia já conseguiu, através de parceria com a ONG, Cap Vert Expoir et Developpement, sediada no Luxemburgo, instalar uma pequena central fotovoltaica na zona do Carriçal, estando já algumas infraestruturas públicas a beneficiar de energia eléctrica, quais sejam o jardim-de-infância, o Centro Social, a escola primária e também a Unidade Sanitária de Base (USB).
A este facto junta-se os 30 % de financiamento para o projecto de electrificação de toda a zona do Carriçal, através das chamadas energias limpas, o qual foi conseguido junto do Fundo Mundial para o Ambiente.
Este é um projecto orçado em cerca de 19 mil contos, e o montante conseguido é de 5.710.500 ECV.
