A ilha de São Nicolau, particularmente o Município da Ribeira Brava, sofreu mais um duro golpe com a perda de um dos seus ilustres filhos. A notícia do falecimento de João de Deus Maximiano, conhecido no meio como João de Nho Pedro Virisse, abalou profundamente a Vila da Ribeira Brava onde tinha familiares muito chegados e vários amigos.

Dedicou a sua vida à causa da Administração Pública tendo exercido altos cargos tanto em São Nicolau, ilha que o viu nascer, bem como na ilha do Sal e mesmo a nível do Governo.

A Câmara Municipal da Ribeira apresenta toda a sua solidariedade à família enlutada (viúva, filhos, irmãos, irmãs, genros, noras, parentes e amigos) e aplaude toda uma vida de trabalho árduo dedicada com paixão em prol do desenvolvimento desta sociedade que se curva com respeito e saudade desta figura que deixou a sua marca bem vincada nos anais da nossa história.
