A coordenadora residente das Nações Unidas (NU) em Cabo Verde e representante do PNUD, Ulrika Richardson esteve de visita à ilha e reconhece positivamente o andamento dos projectos financiados pelo serviço que dirige, apesar dos sucessivos atrasos na sua conclusão.
Ulrika Richardson que foi recebida pelo presidente do concelho da Ribeira Brava e visitou o Parque Natural do Monte Gordo, cuja sede está a ser construída com financiamento das Nações Unidas e avançou que em Junho já poderá ser inaugurada.
Embora tenha permanecido na ilha apenas 24 horas, a coordenadora residente das NU no país disse ter sido uma visita muito profícua e intensa e pôde ver o ritmo dos trabalhos de implementação da Dessalinizadora financiada pelo IBSA, através das NU.
Ao mesmo tempo que reconheceu o impacto que a produção de água dessalinizada vai ter na vida da população local, Ulrika Richardson explica que a previsão de conclusão já sofreu inúmeras alterações dada a complexidade do projecto, já que muitos equipamentos para o seu funcionamento tiveram de ser fabricados de forma adaptada ao mesmo.
A explicação é corroborada pelo edil, Américo Nascimento que admitiu que houve uma falha na previsão dos custos em termos dos custos de adução.
“Isso porque o IBSA financiou a Unidade Dessalinizadora e a parte logística de apoio à mesma. A parte de adução de água, não contemplada nesse financiamento, encareceu o projecto resultando na necessidade de se procurar financiamento para os quase sete quilómetros de adução entre Preguiça e Caleijão em ferro fundido e a materialização das obras”, elucidou.
Nos encontros entre Ulrika Richardson e Américo Nascimento foi oportunidade para apresentação das metas e desafios para o desenvolvimento do município bem como momento de troca de impressões sobre questões que se prendem com o cumprimento dos Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio.
Às medidas para o emprego sustentável dos jovens, principalmente as mulheres, foi dada uma tónica especial e Ulrika Richardson defendeu o agro-negócio como uma das soluções a serem trabalhadas e melhorada juntamente com a FAO
“Este é um sector que no futuro vai ser uma grande fonte de geração de emprego e um motor de desenvolvimento do país daí terem sido discutidas formas de cooperação com a autarquia ribeira-bravense bem como uma exploração sustentável das oportunidades turísticas do concelho com destaque para o Parque Natural do Monte Gordo”.
Na sua primeira visita oficial à ilha, a coordenadora residente das NU em Cabo Verde também visitou a barragem e outros pontos do município e confessou ter ficado impressionada com a beleza de São Nicolau.
