A unidade de dessalinização da Preguiça, em São Nicolau, com capacidade para produzir 1.200 metros de cúbicos de água por dia, foi inaugurada este domingo, 22, pelo Primeiro-ministro, José Maria Neves.

 

O chefe do Governo considerou obra como uma infra-estrutura emblemática para São Nicolau, dada sua importância para o abastecimento de rede pública, no município da Ribeira Brava. E libertação da água dos furos para rega dos campos agrícolas.
José Maria Neves enalteceu a iniciativa da Camara Municipal da Ribeira Brava, por ser a primeira autarquia a nível nacional a mobilizar meios e parceiros para a dessalinização da água para o consumo, sem transferir a responsabilidade para o poder central.
Por seu turno, o edil ribeirabravanse, Américo Nascimento afirma que a inauguração daquela infra-estrutura é realização de um sonho que vai permitir os munícipes ter mais água tanto para consumo bem como para rega.
Contudo, Nascimento avança que o desafio agora é trabalhar para cobrir o concelho com a taxa de ligação de água ao domicílio a 100 % até 2016, uma vez que a taxa actual é de 90%. E também mobilizar recursos para produção de água dessalinizada com base na energia renovável uma vez que através de energia convencional é muito caro.
De referir que a dessalinizadora da Preguiça já esta funcional a três meses. E a sua construção iniciou em Outubro de 2010 e custou 200 mil contos, financiado pelas Nações Unidas – Fundo IBSA – do Governo por intermédio do Ministério do Ambiente e da Câmara Municipal.
O acto de inauguração contou com as presenças do ministro do Ambiente, Habitação e Ordenamento do Território, Antero Veiga, a coordenadora do Sistema das Nações Unidas, Ulrika Richardson-Golinski, e o embaixador do Brasil em Cabo Verde, João Inácio Padilha, de centenas de pessoas.
