Foi com uma multidão que se inaugurou a primeira barragem de São Nicolau, mais um investimento do Governo na sua política de mobilização de água e transformação do mundo rural.
 
A barragem de banca Furada é a primeira da ilha de Chiquinho e a sétima a nível nacional sendo que é a mais alta (com maior profundidade) de todas construídas até agora e custou quase 700 mil contos.
A infra-estrutura tem 160 metros de cumprimento e 42 de altura, com capacidade para armazenar até 300 mil metros cúbicos de água, permitindo cobrir uma área irrigada de 35 hectares de terreno, beneficiando pelo menos 175 agricultores.
