Ribeira Brava - 4 de Outubro. O dia 03 de Outubro vai ficar na história do Município da Ribeira Brava. Foi lançada a primeira pedra do projecto de dessalinização de água, na localidade de Preguiça, num acto presidido pelo Senhor Primeiro Ministro de Cabo Verde, Dr. José Maria Neves.
O projecto de dessalinização é um dos maiores e mais importantes projectos do Município da Ribeira Brava. Com um orçamento de um milhão e seiscentos mil dólares, financiado pela organização constituída pela India, Brasil e África do Sul (IBSA), através das Nações Unidas, terá uma unidade dessalinizadora com a capacidade de produção de 1200 metros cúbicos de água por dia, suficiente para abastecer toda a ilha de S. Nicolau com água potável.
Este projecto está enquadrado num ambicioso Programa Municipal de Água da Câmara Municipal da Ribeira Brava, para o período 2010 a 2012, avaliado em cerca de 300 mil contos.
Com este projecto pretende-se resolver o problema de abastecimento de água, com qualidade, no Município da Ribeira Brava e destinar a água das nascentes e furos para o programa de desenvolvimento da agricultura.
