Local_Barragem_1Ribeira Brava, 21 de Setembro. O Vale da Fajã, no município da Ribeira Brava, é o local escolhido para a construção da primeira barragem na ilha de São Nicolau. Custará cerca de 600 milhões de escudos e garantirá mais de 100 postos de trabalho.

 

O contrato foi assinado no dia 20 de Setembro entre o Ministério de Desenvolvimento Rural e a empresa construtora MOTA ENGIL, devendo a obra estar concluída num horizonte de 22 meses. A primeira pedra será lançada por ocasião das próximas festas do Município da Ribeira Brava.

Terá uma capacidade máxima de 300 metros cúbicos de água, capazes de irrigar uma área de 35 hectares de terreno. Caso tudo correr como o projectado, a barragem começará a receber água das chuvas de 2013.

Para além da sua vocação principal de retenção da água, será aproveitada como via carroçável que unirá as duas margens da ribeira, facilitando, dessa forma, a circulação em segurança das pessoas e bens.
