Praia, 04 Ago (Inforpress) -  O Programa das Nações Unidas já disponibilizou cerca de um milhão e meio de dólares, para o financiamento do projecto de dessalinização de água para a ilha de São Nicolau.

Este projecto, segundo apurou a Inforpress junto do director-geral de Indústria e Energia (DGIE), Abrão Lopes, vem debelar o problema de abastecimento do “precioso líquido” nos dois concelhos de São Nicolau, nomeadamente, Ribeira Brava e Tarrafal, já que a capacidade de água dessalinizada será de mil metros cúbicos ( 1.000 m3).

No âmbito deste projecto de dessalinização de água, Abrão Lopes, terminou, hoje, uma missão técnica à “ilha de Chiquinho”, que teve como objectivo verificar as condições prévias para a sua implementação, particularmente, os possíveis locais para albergar a central dessalinizadora.

Conforme Abrão Lopes, foram identificados três alternativas, com vista a uma solução integrada para toda ilha, já que a viabilidade da dessalinização da água do mar só será possível com a montagem de um único dessalinizador, estando em curso concertações entre os dois municípios, nesse sentido.

Através deste projecto, em que a outra parte do financiamento espera-se obter através de uma parceria público/privada, estima-se que em dois anos a população esteja melhor abastecida em relação ao precioso líquido, com acesso a água dessalinizada, que poderá ser utilizada, ainda, na agricultura.  

De referir que, neste momento, o abastecimento dos dois municípios é garantido por águas subterrâneas provenientes de furos, pelo que, segundo o presidente da Câmara Municipal de Ribeira Brava, Américo Nascimento, se não chover, não haverá a recarga dos lençóis freáticos, por isso têm que estar precavidos.
